Congratulations on choosing Bowie State University to pursue your undergraduate degree!
Bowie State University has a rich legacy spanning more than 150 years of providing high-quality educational opportunities to students and alumni who make a difference in their communities. Maryland’s oldest historically black university is racing to excellence in serving diverse 21st century learners and providing public education for the public good. We offer 22 majors, 19 master’s programs, 14 post-baccalaureate certificates and two doctoral programs in a wide range of high-demand fields.
This catalog is an important tool to aid in your academic success. In it you will find a complete list of programs, courses, requirements and other information needed to ensure that you are hitting important milestones to obtain your degree.
You will also find several resources to enrich your experience outside of the classroom, including student organizations, career services and special programs. College is a time to learn and explore, so I encourage you to make the most of your time and contribute your talents to the campus and the broader community. Message from the Interim Provost
Welcome to Bowie State University! We are pleased you have selected the state of Maryland ’ s oldest historically black college and university to complete your undergraduate studies. Located on a 300-acre suburban site, Bowie State is in the center of one of the nation’s most exciting metropolitan areas, within easy reach of Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD.
Home to more than 6,100 students, you will find Bowie State to be a vibrant and active, diverse community of scholars, who are served by a cadre of distinguished faculty and staff. Notably, Bowie State offers a broad range of undergraduate degree programs in our colleges of Arts and Sciences, Professional Studies, Business, and Education. Convenient evening classes and online courses are also available, and a specially designed, low-enrollment program is offered to undergraduate honors students.
To help ensure student success at Bowie State, we provide the university catalog as the official source of our academic policies and procedures, admissions requirements, academic calendars, academic programs and course descriptions. The catalog also contains a wealth of other information and essential details to guide you in your personal journey here.
