Welcome to Bowie State University! Residing in the Prince George’s County of Maryland and centrally located in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, you will find Bowie State University to be an exceptional learning environment to pursue your graduate education. As Maryland’s oldest HBCU, Bowie State University embraces its humble beginning since 1865. Today, BSU is one of Maryland’s fastest-growing universities and is ranked among one of the top 25 HBCU institutions in the nation that provide a high-quality and affordable educational opportunity for students with ambitions to achieve and succeed.
As you begin your graduate studies at Bowie State University, we are all fully aware of the many challenges our students face during this unprecedented period of COVID-19 disruption. We are here to provide you with a supportive environment to thrive in your graduate program.
Since the inception of the first graduate program in 1970, Bowie State University has been proud to boost the growth of 35 master’s degrees and advanced certificates and two doctorate programs that prepare students for today’s most exciting and in-demand career fields and graduate study. Dean’s Message
Bowie State University has a long and distinguished history as the oldest HBCU in the state of Maryland and a member of the University System of Maryland. In 1970, BSU was authorized to offer its first graduate degree, the Master of Education, and has since then increased its graduate programs to nineteen Masters and two doctoral programs which have been added to the inventory of graduate level programs approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
We are pleased that you have taken an interest in matriculating with. We are prepared to assist you in becoming a part of our educational community. Our goal at Bowie State University is to ensure that you enjoy an excellent academic curricula and a safe learning environment which will help you develop and enhance quality leadership skills, broaden your social, intellectual, cultural and international horizons. We present you with this 2020 - 2022 academic years graduate catalog, and within the pages, you will learn more about the policies and procedures governing graduate education. We describe in details the processes that have to be followed and completed in order for a graduate degree to be earned. We advise you to read and follow the policies in the catalog in order to successfully navigate your degree.
