CHEM 309 - Biochemistry I3 Credits
(Fall and Spring) Prerequisite(s): CHEM 202. This course is a study of structure and function of proteins and carbohydrates. Topics include role and importance of water in biochemical reactions; introduction to structural and thermodynamic elements of enzymology and biochemical pathways; structure and function of allosteric proteins with a particular emphasis on hemoglobin; and carbohydrate metabolism, citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation.
