EDAD 818 - Postsecondary Administration, Organization, and Governance

Prerequisite(s): EDAD 814, EDAD 825 & EDAD 830  The purpose of the Postsecondary Administration, Organization, and Governance course is to examine the organizational and administrative structures which govern the implementation of higher education on college campuses. It is imperative to know and understand both the history and purpose behind administrative structures within higher education. Depending on the history, institutional type, size, and mission of the institution, each entity has an impact on how universities are “managed.” Shared governance1 , among campus stakeholders, calls for shared responsibility among the different components of institutional government and specifies areas of primary responsibility for governing boards, administrations, and faculties and includes: a) faculty governance and academic freedom; b) budgetary and salary matters; c) financial exigency; d) selection, evaluation, and retention of administrators; e) college athletics; f) governance and collective bargaining; g) faculty status of college and university librarians; etc.
