PHIS 660 - Governance, Ethical, and Legal Aspects of Public Health Informatics
3 Credits (Fall) Prerequisite(s): INSS 500 and NURS 604 This course explores public health information security policies, models, and mechanics for secrecy, integrity, and availability including Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Electronic Health Records (eHR) to ensure Fair Information Practices (FIP). Topics include governance and management of Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) such as electronic health records, Computerized Provider Order Entry, Clinical Decision Support Systems, Patient Monitoring systems, Medical Imaging Systems, and Administrative Systems. This course examines key issues associated with information security and assurance with special emphasis on the acquisition and usage of protected public health data and Fair Information Practices (FIP). Ethics of information systems in Public Heath such as application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics, and Machine Learning (ML) will be explored.
