ESOL 587 - Supporting English Learners with Learning Disabilities



3 Credits (Summers)
Prerequisite(s): None. An on-going challenge for K-12 teachers is determining whether learning difficulties experienced by English language learners are a result of issues with acquiring language proficiency or a result of an underlying learning disability. This course is designed to help teachers differentiate specific challenges that English learners experience, select tools to gather information to better understand these challenges, and determine effective interventions to address areas of difficulty. Best practices will be considered from second-language education and special education.
