HIST 400 - American Intellectual History

3 Credits

When Offered (Fall Every Two Years)
This course is a survey of the history of ideas from the Colonial Era to the Civil War. Consideration is given to the major socio-economic, political, and literary issues of the period. Such topics as the Puritan Dilemma, the Rights of Man, transcendentalism, romanticism, abolitionism, and communitarianism will be discussed. This course also will cover the evolution and development of the history of ideas from the Civil War to the present.

Prerequisite(s): HIST 201 and HIST 202.
