COSC 509 - UNIX and Systems Programming
3 Credits Prerequisite(s): COSC 503 or equivalent. This course covers advanced concepts for UNIX Shell programming, file structure, system calls, and inter-process communication (pipe and socket implementations); a study of the UNIX operating system, process management, memory management, 1/0, and network communication; systems programming in C with kernel calls; other high-level system features; and C/C++ language programming as needed for special features. It is increasingly used as a desktop machine for certain special occupations in engineering and design and for some home users. Because of its common use in networks, instruction on its use and configuration are necessary for graduate work and professional activities.
