Bowie State University is one of the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. The Computer Science Department is authorized to issue a certificate of completion of mandatory courses listed under the Cybersecurity Focus in the catalog. Students completing the Cybersecurity focus are required to follow the Cybersecurity Focus study plan, which includes the following courses::

COSC 435 - Computer and Network Security 3 Credits
COSC 402 - Software and Operating System Security 3 Credits
COSC 489 - Ethical Hacking 3 Credits
AND one of the following:
COSC 446 - Incident Response and Digital Forensics 3 Credits
COSC 445 - Fundamentals of Cryptography and Applications 3 Credits
COSC 442 - Cybersecurity and Society 3 Credits
