SOCI 311 - Introduction to Social Inequality

(Every semester)
Prerequisite(s): SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology. This course examines on the forces and processes that produce and reproduce the various aspects of social inequality in the United States. It analyzes historic systems and structures of global capitalism which include, economic exploitation, and political oppression and domination—including white supremacy, patriarchy, ideological and cultural hegemony. Throughout the course emphasis is placed on contemporary expressions of inequality in 21st century capitalist globalization. This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview and understanding of inequality. Students will study a broad range of issues and problems related to social inequality in the context of capitalist globalization and crisis.
