ENGL 327 - African Literary Expression

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 102 and ENGL 236. This course presents a sweeping survey of the rich literatures produced by African writers on the African continent and in the diaspora. It explores the folkloric heritage of the African literary tradition and discusses the major themes and ideologies which typify the African literary space. Students critically examine and analyze seminal texts representative of various genres and leave with a firm grounding in the cultural, political, historical, and intellectual contexts within which modern African literature is both produced and consumed.
